Little Free Library

Architecture Studio | Second Year

The Lexington Little Free Library is a circular, glass-enclosed structure suspended beneath a water tower in the Distillery District on Manchester Avenue in Lexington, Kentucky. Floating two feet above the ground, it is supported by eight steel cables and houses eight book stacks that double as seating and an exterior design element, with outward-facing book pages forming its façade. To prevent sun damage, bookshelves are positioned on the north side, while seating faces south, shaded by a triangular awning tensioned between the tower’s columns. This intimate, elevated space fosters a deep connection between reader and book, emphasizing literature above all else.
