Travers Park

Architecture Studio | Third Year

Travers Park, located in Jackson Heights, Queens, is a renovation designed to prioritize the children of the area, transforming the 200,000 ft² site into a playful landscape. The ground plane is treated as a fabric, with dramatic topographical changes for children to explore, while adult programming is placed beneath in a large piazza leading to performance spaces and a flexible gallery. As children play above, adults gather below, catching glimpses of the playful surface through a curving roof. Structural columns from the adult space punctuate the fabric, becoming playful objects for children, symbolizing the physical division between childhood and adulthood.
